What does that mean for donors?

Living Donor Requirements

A Mount Sinai living kidney donor must be:

  • At least 18 years old and less than 75 years old
  • Healthy and active
  • Able to take time off from work or school to complete the evaluation
  • Able to take off at least 2–3 weeks from work or school after surgery

A living kidney donor cannot have any of the following conditions:

  • Kidney disease
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Active infections
  • Obesity: BMI >35
  • Substance abuse
